At This Table, Humanity Remained — Thank You Hermann Langer

A story of quiet courage, made to be worn large.

On December 17, 1944, in the small village of Wereth, Belgium, eleven Black American soldiers of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion were separated from their unit during the opening days of the Battle of the Bulge. Hermann Langer and his family took the soldiers into their home, telling their neighbors, "These men are our guests." Inside, the men were given food, warmth, and shelter — a quiet act of compassion at great personal risk, in the middle of war.

This large-format patch honors the Langer family's courage in choosing humanity in a moment when so many chose fear, and stands alongside the rest of the Wereth 11 Collection in remembering the eleven soldiers themselves.
