The Last Supper at Wereth
A moment of humanity, preserved forever.
On December 16, 1944, eleven American soldiers of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion arrived in the small village of Wereth, Belgium. The Langer family welcomed them in, offering warmth, shelter, and food. That evening, they shared a simple meal around the table. They talked. They laughed. They thanked their hosts.
It would be the last meal the soldiers shared before betrayal and capture. The next morning, the soldiers were betrayed, captured, and many would never return home.
This patch honors that final evening — a moment of humanity, hospitality, and courage that has become one of the most enduring symbols of the Wereth story.
Before betrayal. Before capture. Before sacrifice. There was one final meal. Because of their kindness, we remember.
